I don't know Solidworks, but I created a nicely colored balance scale in Illustrator using a series of stacked elipses to simulate an ornately turned brass stand and base. The structure was colored a yellow orange and then I painted in freeform shapes of light yellow highlights and darker, brown shadows and vague reflections.. . The weighing platforms were just more elipses and well placed shadows to indicate a concave shape. The balance beam was just a shallow, wide triangle with gradiated fills of the same colors as the shadows and highlights.. . This drawing took just a few minutes to rough out. I can only hope that Solidworks will let you draw easy, colored elipses/
